College roommate matching disaster

Going into my freshman year I was very excited about the whole college experience, as my parents and their friends had told me time and time again "college was the best time of my life". I didn't have any high-school friends going to the same college as I was, and I thought it would be fun to be roommates with a 'rand-o'; it would help me meet new people and make new friends.

On moving day I got to our dorm before my roommate; I was nervous and excited. When my roommate showed up that instantly changed to shock. My roommate was a foreign exchange student from Taiwan; understood and spoke very little English, not even enough to really communicate that I wanted the bottom bunk, or that 'this is my stuff, don't touch it!'.

I tried to be optimistic and thought this could be a great learning experience, but after a few short weeks I knew I had to get out fast. I needed to concentrate on my studies if I wanted to keep my academic scholarship and my roommate was always up late with loud music and always had friends over. I never knew what they were saying and I think this is what bothered me the most.

I tried to move rooms to no avail. and I ended up spending the rest of the semester in the library; I would return to my room only for a few minutes each day to shower and change. I got through it but I would have to say this was the absolute worst experience I have ever had.
